Sewing Season

We’re taking a cue from yesterday’s 70 degree weather (what!) and thinking about spring sewing. There’s a series of fun, springy sewing classes coming up that are perfect for growing your crafting skills and your spring wardrobe.

Our very next workshop, on April 27, is  Sewing with Knits: T-Shirt Workshop. Get comfortable with our awesome printed and solid knit fabrics to make that staple item: the t-shirt. You’ll want to brush up on sewing with knits because we have Colette’s two new knit patterns. We don’t want to spoil the surprise (they’re announcing them today) but you can see them in person in the shop!

What’s the perfect match for a spring t-shirt? How about shorts or a skirt? Starting May 10, our Grainline Studio Workshop walks you through constructing either item. If you’ve only worked with quilting cottons before, this is a great introduction to heavier fabrics (and zippers)!

Along with new patterns from Grainline and Sewaholic, we’re so excited to offer digital patterns from Liesl + Co. In celebration, Jeanne is teaching a Liesl + Co Clothing Workshop beginning on May 21 I can’t wait to make an Everyday Skirt (or five)!

Our Custom Fit Dress class begins June 1st. There’s just one spot left in this class, but you can bet we’ll be scheduling another one for summer. Check out the sample, in Nani Iro cotton!

Mothers + daughters that sew

We had such fun hosting a private mother + daughter sewing lesson in the shop on Monday evenings in February. All six learned to sew, made aprons (with cute appliqué and embroidery details…Kate was teaching the class after all…) and even found time to whip up a matching apron for their dolls…three generations!

March Classes and Small Changes

We can’t believe how quickly 2014 is already speeding by! We’re getting ready for our third anniversary this March with a bunch of events, workshops (like Sock and Cable knitting), new merchandise, and, of course, our annual sale. Keep an eye on our website and in the shop for more details soon, and keep your calendars open!

Speaking of calendars, have you seen our class calendar? You might notice that March looks a little bit different. We’re changing the way classes are listed on our website calendar. Now, only the first session of each class will appear on our calendar, instead of every session of each class.

How will this affect you? It will make it easier to see what classes are coming up! From the calendar, you can see the start dates for all of our upcoming classes. We’ll continue to label our One Day Workshops as…One Day Workshops (like our March 1 Day Workshop: Learn to Crochet! Crash Course). Anything that doesn’t have that phrase in its title will have more than one meeting. Click on a class title or hover over the class to see when it meets.

We’ve also added an “alumni” section to our popular Weekend Beginner Knitting class. So, if you’ve never taken a knitting class before, you can register for Weekend Beginner Knitting, and if you’ve already learned to knit in a JP Knit & Stitch Class, you can take Weekend Beginner Knitting for Alumni. Just like our Wednesday Beginning to Knit and Beginning to Knit for Alumni, students work together to improve their knitting skills. And remember, if a class has a month in its title, it’s a recurring class. (So if you miss this session, don’t worry! We’ll schedule another one soon.)
