1-Day Workshop: Hitchhiker Shawl

Price: $30.00

Start Date: June 29, 2013
End Date: June 29, 2013

1 Saturday: 10:30am - 12:30pm

Meets on:  June 29

Instructor: Lynn Salmonsen

Level: all levels; some knitting experience (knit stitch, purl stitch) required

Cost:$30 plus materials (pattern included)

The hitchhiker shawl (click here to see it on Ravelry) is a fun, easy little shawl/scarf knit mostly in garter stitch.  It’s reversible, stretchy and lightweight and looks fabulous in any variegated, hand dyed sock yarn.  It’s a shallow, asymmetrically shaped triangular shawlette with a saw–tooth edge border that evolves as you knit.  Because you start knitting from one end, you can stop any time, therefore making any size you like.

The pattern starts with 2 stitches, adding wider and wider rows forming the shallow triangle and saw tooth edge on one side.  You can also make this in thicker yarn and larger size needles and still have lots of fun seeing how this shawl forms out of those 2 stitches.  You will need to know how to knit and purl and will learn how to knit into the front and back of a stitch to “make 1”, BO in process and make this uniquely shaped shawl.  Easy and fun!!

Materials needed  -  1 skein of variegated sock yarn or heavier weight (about 400 yds )

#3 or #4 circular needle or size to fit yarn
