Learn to weave wall hangings and other small projects on portable frame looms. We’ll start with the basics of frame weaving – how to set up the loom, how to select yarns, and how to weave solid areas of color in the tradition of tapestry weaving. Then we’ll progress to adding color, texture, shapes and three-dimensional elements like fringe. Students will make one or more weavings which can be used as wall hangings, or as elements of functional objects such as handbags. By the end of the class will have enough experience and information to continue weaving on their own.

Materials

  • Small scissors
  • Tapestry or large-eye needles
  • A variety of yarns to experiment with – worsted weight or larger. Variegated yarns are especially fun.
  • Four stretcher bars, 2 measuring 14″ and 2 measuring 17″. These can be found at most art supply stores. Here’s an example: https://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-standard-stretcher-bars/
