Saturdays: 10:15am – 12:15pm

Meets on: November 18, December 2, 9, 16

Instructor: Jess Pease

Level: Experienced Beginner.
(should have experience with casting on, knitting, and purling. Experience with knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing, DPNs, and magic loop will be helpful. – Try our 1 Day Workshop: Learn Magic Loop)

Cost: $85 plus materials

In this class we will learn how to knit top-down socks! Together we will learn cast-ons and bind-offs/grafting, how to measure and fit socks properly, how to turn a heel, how to choose sock yarn, and we’ll discuss the different methods of sock knitting (toe-up, top-down, two-at-a-time, magic loop, short row heel, &c.) We will have a few basic sock patterns to work from for your first pair of socks; however, if you have a sock pattern that you have been dying to try,
email it to us
before class starts and we will work with you on that pattern instead. We will finish one sock in class, and give you all the information and encouragement you need to finish the second one at home.

Class 1: casting on and working on either ribbing/leg
Class 2: continuing to work on the leg and beginning the heel flap
Class 3: turning the heel and continuing on gusset decreases and foot
Class 4: finishing up! toe decreases and grafting

Materials:

400 yards of sock yarn
A set of 5 DPNs, 2 small circular needles, OR one long circular needle (for magic loop), size 1-2 US; OR materials that are called for in your pattern
Note: this class will be top-down-sock-centric. If you have already knit a pair of top-down socks, and want to learn toe-up, we can probably work something out, but email us before you sign up for class.
