Starts: April 13, 2017 6:00 pm
4 Fridays 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and 1 Saturday
Meets on: April 7, April 21, April 28, and May 5. WUTE Festival May 13th.
MAY 6TH FESTIVAL HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO MAY 13TH – MORE TIME TO MAKE AND DROP OFF YOUR SQUARES!!!!
Please join us in a very special community crafting event for the annual JP Wake Up the Earth Festival! WUTE is led by our friends at Spontaneous Celebrations and combines the May Day traditions of multicultural celebration, social and economic justice, and a love for Mother Earth. JP Knit & Stitch has collaborated every year since our opening to create a community craft project in conjunction with the festival and this year promises to be epic!
We are asking our community of JP crafters to submit 6×6 inch squares (knit/crochet/woven) that can be pieced together to create a colorful banner for the WUTE parade and festival grounds. Sewers (embroidery/quilting) can also submit 6.5×6.5 inch squares that will be pieced to create a BORDER. Each square, whether abstract or representational, should reflect a community value you wish to champion including (but certainly not limited to) environmental protection, arts education, social justice, and human rights. There is no limit to how you can use the power of color, text, pattern, texture and more to share your message!
We are devoting our Friday Stitch nights in April to this project and invite you to come work on a square and help us piece them together for the May 6th festival. We will have donated materials on hand if you wish to use them. The more hands, heads, and hearts we can include in this project, the better! All squares should be dropped off at JP Knit & Stitch by April 29th so that our team has time to stitch them together.
