More new fabrics are rolling in every day. Spring is for sewing and we have lots of offer, from Alabama Chanin knits to bright prints from Cloud 9, Art Gallery Fabrics and more. We are also now carrying MUSLIN and TWO kinds of interfacing and plain CANVAS. Yay, bring on the sewing!

Dolls for Zambia Workshop + Class Update

This Sunday (5/19) Jo Anne Steeves will be hosting our Dolls for Zambia workshop from 2-4pm. Come by and meet the founder of the group, Ruth Litchfield, and hear more about this wonderful organization. If you have dolls to drop off, bring them with you, if you want to learn how to make them, bring your scrap yarn and knitting needles. More details are here. Hope to see you there!

Spring is for sewing and our sewing classes are quickly filling up. Washi Dress with Jeanne is full, but the Laurel Dress workshop with Alexis has spots open. Join Stephanie for a the Art Student Tote workshop for the perfect summer bag. Taylor teaches sewing techniques in her intermediate level Techniques with Taylor 1 Day Workshop and, if you don’t know how to sew but are interested in , try June’s I Day Crash Course. Knitting Class UPDATE: Diane’s Wednesday evening Intermediate knitting class is now a DROP IN class. If you have a project that you’re stuck on, need help getting started but don’t want to commit to 6 classes, or just need a little advice, this is the class for you!

Thanks to a committed team of volunteers and a community outpouring of donated red and pink squares (and rectangles!), we realized our vision of creating a communally crafted Marriage Equality banner for the Wake Up the Earth festival 2013. We worked on it throughout the month of April and pieced it together during this past week and all day on Saturday. We are so grateful for what we achieved. We will be making a book on display in the shop and the banner itself will be in the shop for the next couple of weeks. Thanks especially go to Matt, Jess, Michael, and Jarel for helping organize and execute this project. Marriage Equality Banner Update

THE PLAN: JP Knit & Stitch, in collaboration with the local crafting community has, for the last three years, created a yarn/fiber installation during the rite of spring known as Spontaneous Celebrations’ Wake Up the Earth festival here in JP. This year we were inspired by the Human Rights Campaign’s red + pink Marriage Equality symbol. We have decided to build a community crafted version of our own out of knitted and crocheted squares. We are collecting squares at the shop which we will sew together next week. On the day of the festival–Saturday, May 4th–we will be set up on the main lawn in front of Stoneybrook T-stop and we will continue to add (sew squares) to it throughout the day. We will also have a knitting/crochet station set up so people can sit and make squares on the spot. We are excited about the possibility that we may end up with a pretty large banner! But we still need your hep!!!! Click here for the three ways you can help this effort.

THE UPDATE: The crafting for Marriage Equality group met last night during StitchNight at the shop. We discussed logistics around piecing together the banner. We are planning on sewing together the interior part of the marriage equality banner (the pink equal sign) first, before the festival.

THE DEADLINES: Drop off your pink squares on Sunday, April 28 at 5pm. We will use the week to sew together the equal sign and then on the day of the festival (Saturday, May 4th, from 12-5) we will be set up on the main lawn in front of Stoneybrook T-stop and will be adding red squares to the banner throughout the day. Drop off your red squares on Saturday, May 4 at the shop or at our spot by the Stoneybrook T. We are hoping to hang the banner from the main stage at 5pm on Saturday.

THE RAFFLE: We’re having a raffle to thank all of our square stitchers! Fill out a raffle ticket when you drop off your square(s) and enter to win a lovely, springy prize from Spud & Chloe, a JP Knit & Stitch project bag, and a $10 gift certificate!

We are back in our shop, happily helping our community into new crafting projects. After a very surreal few days, it feels good to be back in the world of people who like to make things. Lots of people are out on the streets on this lovely spring Saturday. We feel very grateful. Below, some pics of new samples just in to inspire you. Happy crafting, world!

New Fabric for Spring

We are so excited to out out all our new spring fabric bolts. There are 40+ new fabrics in the shop. We are so excited to welcome all of them and with it usher in spring sewing season.

New Spring Yarns

Hello spring and hello new spring yarns. We are carrying a brand new bulky weight cotton yarn, Sprout, in lots of lovely colorways. Perfect for a quick knit up summer-y cardigan or a baby blanket. A new shipment of Madeline Tosh Vintage and Light just landed and we pushed ourselves to bring in new, fresh colors. This yarn is hard to get in and keep in so get it while it’s hot. Also, new to us is Knit Collage’s summer silk yarns. We heart. We are carrying Stargazer Silk and Sequins in six luscious colors and the summery Maharani Silk in 4 fresh colors.
