#MeMadeMay & JP Knit & Stitch

It’s Me Made May guys [photos here are all from Me Made May 2015] and we’d like you to join us! We’ve all been getting excited for spring sewing season here in the shop—eyeing the patterns and fabric that are begging to be paired together and thinking about what creative sewing challenges we’ll set for ourselves.

Read about our Me Made May party at the shop on June 3rd right HERE.

Not sure what Me Made May is? Well, it’s not just about daily outfit posts. In fact, you don’t need to have an extensive handmade wardrobe AT ALL to participate. Me Made May started as a challenge organized by Zoe of the So Zo…What Do You Know blog. The challenge goes back six years now and is meant to encourage people to sew (or refashion/knit/crochet/upcycle) their own wardrobe or parts of it. It’s not a competition, but a chance to foster and celebrate a community of creative makers. Many choose to challenge themselves by donning at least one self-made/refashioned garment each day in May and share their progress through photos online. However, everybody has different goals—for some, it’s about making their first ever handmade item of clothing or cleaning out their closet and refashioning or repairing well-loved items. For others, it’s an opportunity to try their hands at a type of garment or technique they haven’t tried before like blue jeans and outerwear or invisible zippers, hand sewn finishes, french seams, or linings.

Whatever goal(s) you set for yourself, it’s a great time to do it as the motivation and inspiration provided by the whole community is a powerful thing indeed!

Here at J.P. Knit & Stitch we want to encourage you to take part along with us and there are lots of ways to do just that! Each week in May, one of our sewing teachers will be sharing their own Me Made May makes and goals as well as some sneak peeks into their own creative spaces and journeys in fashioning a handmade wardrobe right here on the #beinspiredblog. Of course, we’ll also continue our tradition of posting many of our makes on the J.P. Knit & Stitch instagram using the hashtag #MMMay16JP in addition to the official hashtag of the challenge #MMMay16.

For every #MMMay16JP tag on your challenge posts, we’ll enter your name into a raffle for a pretty rad prize at the end of the month—your choice of any sewing pattern and 3 yards of fabric in the shop along with a special J.P. Knit & Stitch anniversary tote!

Join us at the end of the month for a party in the shop where we’ll announce the raffle winner and celebrate all the awesome makers! Join us on June 3rd for the chance to show off your own makes and talk shop with our sewing teachers, try your hand at some different techniques for making your own clothing labels, and enjoy 10% off all fabric and sewing patterns for this one night only event. You can find more details on our Me Made May event page. In the meantime, happy sewing all! – Kate Herron
